Fabulous Mom of the Week cover pic MYLAH

Mylah is an amazing independent recording artist, songwriter, performer, co-creator of The Revival (an artist showcase in Atlanta), and a fabulous mom to her 7 year old son, Idris. Mylah began her career in the music industry, performing and writing since she was 17.  This budding star has worked with some of the biggest names in the industry including Sean “P. Diddy” Combs, Adonis Shropshire, Brandon “B.A.M.” Hodge and Grammy Award winning producer and songwriter, Bryan-Michael Cox.  Mylah, an Indiana native residing in Georgia, is currently on tour with Anthony David (Grammy nominated Soul/R&B singer/songwriter out of Atlanta GA) and working on a new album to be released early next year. I sat down with Mylah after one of her shows in Bethesda, Maryland and she shared a little bit about her life as a mom in the music industry and how becoming a mom didn’t stop her from going after her dreams! Check out both my “on camera” and “off camera”  interview with Mylah below:

What do you love most about being a mom?

Mylah: I guess I’d say I love the love my son gives me. It’s almost weird how amazing he thinks I am!

Who is your celebrity mom crush and why?

Mylah: My celebrity mom crush is easily Jada Pinkett Smith! She’s so honest, real and raw and she gives her children the room to be THEM. Free children are rare 🙂

What’s your biggest challenge as a mom?

My biggest challenge, if I’m being honest, is simply embracing motherhood. It was never on my “to-do list” of life. I had to do a lot of adjustments, both mentally and physically.

How did you get your start in the music industry?

Mylah: I got my start in the business sort of by accident. I’ve always like performing in some capacity, whether it be singing, rapping, or dancing. I would do talent shows, and I happened to win a really big one in my hometown in Indiana. I was noticed there and put with some award-winning producers and songwriters. Throughout my life, opportunities similar to those have just kind of presented themselves. I love to sing and perform, and it tends to always bring about more opportunity. I haven’t had to really force anything.

What’s your go-to quote, affirmation, scripture or mantra that keeps you focused , motivated or encouraged to keep pushing forward when you may not feel like it?

Mylah: My affirming quote of life is a simple three word catchphrase… Just do it! It kind of encompasses anything you want to do in life, no? A lot of times we will over think ourselves out of an opportunity or situation.  It’s simple…literally JUST DO IT.

Mylah, thank you for sharing a piece of your world with us. It was such a pleasure to talk to you about your life as a mom and indie artist and to see you do your thing on stage. Your musical gifts are rare and I look forward to your upcoming album. You are a true definition of a Fabulous Mom Who Rocks!
