Fabulous Mom Makeover
There have been times in my life where I felt unappreciated, powerless, or I didn’t feel so fabulous. When I created Fabulous Mom Makeovers, I wanted to be to someone what I didn’t have during those times in my life. I wanted to create an unforgettable experience for moms to feel appreciated, to be inspired and empowered and to feel fabulous. – Adrianne
The mission of Fabulous Mom Makeovers is to celebrate and shine a spotlight on well deserving moms by pampering them from hair to makeup and a mini-photoshoot styled by Adrianne Munroe, founder of Fabulous Moms Rock!
This Fabulous Mom Rocks!
Meet Joy Ishmael, 49 and fabulous! Joy is a wife(celebrating her 30 year anniversary this month), a fabulous mom of four and a successful entrepreneur. Fabulous Moms Rock had the pleasure of pampering Joy for our Mother’s Day Makeover on May 12, 2017. Joy was nominated by her younger sister, Keisha. Keisha praised Joy for her strength, her faith, and her determination to provide the best life possible for her family. Keisha also expressed her admiration for Joy’s ability to keep her head held high & a smile on her face even when faced with life’s challenges. Joy is an inspiration to so many and has proved that hard work, determination and a positive outlook on life, will allow you to find joy even in the hardest times of your life.
We asked Joy a few questions about her life as a mother and how she has overcome the challenges she faced. Check out her inspiring story.
Tough Times Call for Tough Decisions.
When Joy was 20 years old she had her first child, a daughter. She shared the challenges she faced being a young mom and unemployed living in NYC. Joy shared that she had nothing. She remembers when all she had were the baby clothes she left with from the hospital. Being an independent young woman, Joy refused to accept the situation she was living in and went back to work only two weeks after having her daughter. She worked double shifts just to provide for her new family and so she would never have to be in the same situation again. Going back to work two weeks after having a child is one tough decision any new mom would have to make. Instead of feeling sorry for herself, Joy made that tough decision, which would change her life forever.
Finding Her Joy
Fast forward twenty-nine years later after becoming a mom, Joy serves as a Director at a top hotel brand and is a successful business owner. What started off as a hobby, became her side hustle. Joy started a Bridal Consulting and Event Planning business in 2011. She finds joy in planning events and making sure her clients are happy. Prior to becoming a boss mom, Joy was faced with many challenges. From losing her oldest daughter in a car accident, to undergoing chemotherapy, Joy found the strength to keep going and the courage to keep a positive outlook during those tough times. When asked what celebrity she admires, Joy named author, inspirational speaker and life coach, Iyanla Vanzant. Joy admires Iyanla’s life story…her courage and strength. Joy explained that Iyanla came a long way from where she came from to where she is today. Joy’s story somehow reminds me of Iyanla’s story. Not so much the events of their lives but because of the strength and courage they both possessed to overcome the many challenges they faced and to see who they are today, beautiful, inspiring, and successful women.
Have a little fun.
I asked Joy “What is one thing you would tell your younger self?” Joy immediately answered “Have a little bit more fun!” Being a young mom, Joy was busy raising a family. Having Fun was the last thing on her “to do” list. But don’t feel sorry for Joy. She’s having plenty of fun now! She worked hard, kept her faith, and never gave up!
I asked Joy to describe herself using the acronym FAB. She described herself as being Fun, Adorable and Beautiful. After meeting Joy, I would totally agree with her. After meeting Joy and learning about her life, I would describe her as Fearless, Amazing and Blessed.
I want to personally thank Joy for allowing me to share her story with hopes to inspire other moms who are faced with challenges to stay positive (and surround yourself with other positive people), to keep the faith, and to find your joy even during those tough times. Mamas, whatever you’re going through, you will get through it!
Okay so let’s talk about the Makeover. Joy expressed her love for bright colors and how she likes to think outside the box. After seeing a photo of Joy for the first time, I knew I wanted to add a pop of color in her wardrobe. I also wanted to give her a soft and feminine look incorporating lace details. Please comment and let me know what you think about Joy’s two outfits. I also provided the links to the wardrobe down below so you can shop her looks!
This makeover wouldn’t have been possible without our amazing sponsors. Joy’s gorgeous Makeup was provided by my sister and freelance makeup artist, Amanda Smith of Mandy J Beauty. Joy’s hair was done by the awesome hairstylist Kimberly Leakey Brown, Styles By Jordan of Posh Salon Studios in Columbia, MD. Finally, the amazing photography was done by Dominique Allen of Create It Photography. Please check out their amazing work. I also want to thank The Bright Smile Lab located in Pikesville, Maryland for providing our fabulous mom with a Gift Certificate for professional teeth whitening services.

This blue and white strapless jumpsuit is from H&M. I accessorized with white pearlized flower earrings and gold rings also found at H&M. This jumpsuit is also available in Plus Size. You can purchase it here.
You can wear the jumsuit alone or add a pop of color by adding a Yellow Blazer.
I paired the jumpsuit and yellow blazer with fuschia pink strappy heels for an additional pop of color.
This Dusty Pink lace dress is also from H&M. This dress is perfect for attending a summer wedding. I accesorized with pink beaded tassle earrings and a gold cuff bracelet. I kept the soft color theme going with a pair of nude sandals. Find a similar lace dress here.
